Snowman Unhinged

I somehow came across this little stop-motion piece on Google Video the other day and it impacted me in two ways.  First, it made me reconsider my attitude on life in general (which was it’s purpose… kudos to the creators, your film works!  That’s not an easy accomplishment!)  Second, the “alternate ending” spoof is making me reconsider the ending of my film.

If one were to watch my film as it ends now, then immediately follow it up with this parody, they would burst into laughter and completely lose respect for OP* because right now it is exactly the kind of cliche melodrama that they are making fun of.  That is precisely what I am trying my best to avoid – making the over-serious, quintessential “Student Film.”  The choice of a Poe story in itself makes this a difficult task, because Poe has been done to death (no puns, please) and unfairly categorized as cheesy horror and outdated cheap scares.  Poe is what you read your freshman year of high school when you go through a self-absorbed and immature “dark phase” (which goths and emos don’t seem to outgrow), but then you move on and never read him again accept maybe for novelty.

Anyway, to summarize this rant, it’s a shame, and hopefully I can help show that there’s mo’ to Poe than you thought befo’!  I know… that was really bad.

*which is how I’ll most likely be referring to my film from now on.  You know, the OP… it’s cooler than the OC.
